PUT Library provides a workstation furnished with specialist equipment for readers with disabilities.

Intended Purpose

The workstation is a dedicated area for persons with visual impairments created to provide them with appropriate conditions for learning. The workplace is furnished with specialist assistive equipment. The acquisition of the equipment has been made possible by donations from Social Rehabilitation Fund of Poznan University of Technology and from the project "Knowledge Engineering for smart growth" POKL.04.03.00 00 131/12 co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund.

Specialist equipment sets include:

1. VisiKey keyboard for visually impaired users – with white letters on black background, bold, enlarged with enhanced visibility.

2. Window-Eyes PL Professional screen reader software

   Window-Eyes is the most stable screen reader software that enables users with visual impairments to access and use software created for Windows. Both novices and advanced computer users can use the reader. It has a wide range of features and options that make it highly adaptable and allow it to work with the most sophisticated applications.
   
   Professional Edition of Window-Eyes reader is compatible with the following operating systems: Windows 2000, Windows 2003, Windows XP (Home, Media Center, Professional), Windows Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business, Ultimate, Enterprise), Windows 7 (Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate, Enterprise.)

3. Lunar Plus screen magnifier with reading function. The magnifier can magnify and read the text simultaneously. The set includes Polish version of RealSpeak speech synthesizer (voice Agata).

   Flash-drive edition means the software is supplied on a flash-drive to enable users to plug it in via USB port and use it on any computer. A wide range of Lunar Plus features and options allow users with different types of visual impairments to read documents.
   
   Advantages and main features of the product:
   Magnifier:

   • Text and pictures can be magnified up to x32 with margins smoothing.
   • Adjustable colour, contrast and brightness.
   • A set of mouse cursors/pointers with enhanced visibility, smooth scrolling to browse and read long documents.
   • A set of screen magnifying modes: full screen, divided screen, window, magnifying glass, automatic magnifying glass, hooked areas.
   • Possibility to configure screen to meet user’s needs.

   Reader:

   • Reads and/or spells text from the screen: documents, menu, buttons.
   • Reads letters and/or words the user is typing.
   • Compatible with all types of fonts and letters, including symbols and diacritic signs.
   • Includes Orpheus synthesizer that has the Polish language option.
   • Automatically recognizes many other hardware and software-based synthesizers.

For people with visual impairments has been purchased easy to use, stationary, colourr magnifier SV-Xtend Basic characterized by the high quality of the magnified image and a portable enlarger Topolino Smart.
